Release notes for 2026

Recent updates to Overton Index including data updates, fixes and new product functionality.

We make updates to the Overton Index daily and share these as release notes. We don’t follow a fixed release cycle—new features go live as soon as they pass testing and QA. This page tracks all work completed in 2026. You can find updates from previous years on separate pages.

To stay informed, you can also sign up for our newsletter, which highlights major updates to the app and data. If you have questions about any of the items listed below, please contact Support.

July 2026

We have released a new search history feature enabling users to review, revisit and re-run previous searches, and add them to the more permanent ‘Saved Searches’ function. This will support researchers using Overton for literature searches and discovery to access and re-run searches over an extended period and provide a useful back-up if you forget to save a search!

June 2026

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing a platform that works for all users, we are releasing a major accessibility and interface update.

As a result of this update, Overton will meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA requirements across the entire platform and our newly redesigned pages will meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards. For a full list of the changes we have implemented see here; Accessibility update

May 2026

We have upgraded from GRID (Global Research Identifier Database) to ROR (Research Organization Registry) for our site-wide institutional data, which provides more accurate and up-to-date institution information. ROR is actively maintained, continuously growing, and becoming the industry standard for identifying research organisations.
