Searching in Overton Engage

Learn about the different search functionality of Overton Engage.

Available search options

Engage offers several ways to search, and your options depend on your subscription type.

Free users can use keyword search to narrow their results.

Users at institutions with a premium Overton Engage subscription can use both keyword search and semantic search.

Opportunities admins at institutions with a premium Overton Engage subscription can also use people search, in addition to the other search options.

Semantic search is a method that focuses on understanding the meaning behind a query. It differs from lexical search, which looks only for exact matches or word variations without considering the overall meaning.

Semantic search finds more relevant results even when the query is phrased differently from the information in the documents. It powers applications like recommendation systems and modern search engines, which aim to mimic human understanding of language.

People search helps you find opportunities that match researchers at your institution. Search by a researcher’s name to see the opportunities they match with. You can learn more about how we match researchers to opportunities.
